Out friend recommended Akela to us and then bought me a voucher for my 40th birthday. We went today and it really didn't disappoint. Every single dish we ordered was delicious and it is such a lovely little restaurant. Feel lucky to have such a quality restaurant on our doorstep, can't recommend it enough!

Best described as “Dishoom at home” for those in the know! Akela was a really great bespoke Indian tapas / street-food experience.
It’s decorated really well, with vibrant colours and cool decor. The disco toilet os far bigger than any public ought or needs to be, but is funky and has complimentary hairspray, deodorant and sanitary pads which even as a male I thought was a thoughtful touch.
Food-wise, there’s some really cool takes on stuff (I ordered the Tandoori Chicken Garlic Naan Pizza) and I enjoy the tapas-style element of mix and matching several smaller items for a varied meal!
My only real gripe was the lack of a spicy tomato-based curry sauce to align slightly more with a traditional Indian restaurant, for people who want to tone down on the wacky food and opt along the more typical Indian food path, however this is something that Akela’s big city contemporaries like Mowgli and Dishoom shy away from too so perhaps that’s more a reflection of my personal tastes not fully committing to the street food ethos!
Honestly, I wish my hometown had an Akela. Independent and creative places like this make me excited to eat out - thankyou for the enjoyable meal!- Meal type

Dined here a few times now since it opened and have never been disappointed! Food always really tasty, and isn’t too heavy either which you can sometimes have when you dine at other Indian establishments. Will be back!

Absolutely fantastic and welcoming place to call in for a cheeky cocktail and a lovely plate of food. The owner is wonderful, so polite and friendly. So much detail goes into every single thing you have been given, be that a plate of food or a drink. Will absolutely return.

Thank you so much Kath. Lovely feedback. Appreciate it. 🧡🇮🇳
Second time visit and everything was great. Plenty for vegans too so we weren’t stuck for choice. I’d recommend the samosas and the truffle naan especially. Everything was very good value especially the vegan tiffin. Lots of amazing food for £18!
